Meet the women of the New Zealand Olympic Winter Team who are competing in Sochi, Russia from 7 – 23 February 2014. These eight ladies are part of a fifteen strong team representing New Zealand. Today we meet Katharine Eustace.

Katharine Eustace
Discipline: Skeleton
About: Katharine Eustace describes herself as “a bit of a sport junkie”. From being a 400mm runner at school and competing at Junior International level she then took on adventure racing and multisport. She took up skeleton racing in 2008. Her sport involves racing at speeds of up to 125kmph with your nose pretty much on the ice so is definitely not for the faint hearted. In December 2013 Katharine slid to a career best result finishing fourth in the Lake Placid World Cup race at the home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics on Mt Van Hoevenberg in New York State.

See Katherine compete on 13/02/2014 at 8:30 pm

Skeleton involves a descent on a special track with artificially frozen ice in a sled. The Olympic skeleton competition lasts for two days. Each athlete completes a total of four runs. Medals are awarded based on total time over the four runs, with the winner having the lowest overall time. If two athletes complete the competition in a tie, they are awarded the same place.
