Following months of anticipation, last week Auckland celebrated the opening night performance of Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical, at the Civic Theatre.

Much fanfare surrounded the premiere performance of Priscilla with an array of distinguished guests and glitterati present, including; Hilary Barry and Mike McRoberts of TV3, Mark Sainsbury and Wendy Petrie of TV One, Candy Lane, Sally Ridge and Adam Parore, Brigitte O’Sullivan and Casey Green and Ali Williams.

The exceptional 30 member cast including; Tony Sheldon (The Producers) as Bernadette, Jeremy Stanford (Buddy, Certified Male, High Society) as Mitzi and Daniel Scott (Dusty) as Felicia. Along with, Collette Mann (Urinetown, Mum’s the Word) as Shirley and Bill Hunter (from the original Priscilla movie, Gallipoli and Muriel’s Wedding) as Bob the Mechanic delivered a blistering performance featuring 20 full-scale production numbers to a pulsating soundtrack of classic disco hits including; I Will Survive, Finally, I Love The Nightlife and Shake Your Groove Thing. Greg Innes, Chief Executive of The Edge, added; “Priscilla is the ‘buzz’ of the city right now! With over 65,000 tickets already sold we’re over-joyed Priscilla has been embraced as we had anticipated, we’re right on track to mirror the Australian box office success”.
