Perry Foundation North Island School Championships

In great conditions for racing, the Teams Time Trial races at Gordington on Saturday were dominated by Auckland schools, showing that the Auckland Secondary Schools Time Trial series is a great lead in to the North Island and National Secondary Schools Championships.

The road race circuit in Ngaruawahia saw results being far more spread throughout the island with the only trifecta of the Championships going to Waikato Diocesan in the U17 Girls, with Brittany Thompson 1st, Stephanie Rauber 2nd and Tania Rauber in 3rd.

A big thank you must go out to Perry Foundation for supporting the event, Sandra Carter (Race Manager) and her team of helpers and Mark Ireland (chief Commissaire) and his able team of Officials.

Perry Foundation South Island School Championships

For the first time in 3 years the weather was kind and a full racing programme was made possible at the South Island Schools Cycling Championships held in Christchurch. Over 200 riders competed in 2 days of racing consisting of an Individual Time Trial, Team Time Trial and Road race.

Josh Atkins (Christchurch Boys High School) showed his class in the U20 Boys ITT with a great win ahead of his departure next Monday to Moscow as part of the NZ team competing at the Junior World Track Championships.

Villa Maria were dominant in the Teams Time Trial winning both the U16 and U20 events and taking out the Hayden Godfrey Trophy for the top overall school for the 2nd successive year.
There were large cheers in the crowd as Harriet Smithies (Cashmere High School) celebrated her U20 Road Race win. The win was a significant win for Harriet who has made an outstanding comeback in cycling after suffering a serious crash at a cycling race in June 2008.

A big thank you to Perry Foundation for supporting the event and Tane Norton for coming down and presenting medals on behalf of Perry, Bruce Dawe (Race Manager) his great team of helpers and the Commissaires, Peter Richards, John McBain and Brian Roulston.
