World cycling champion Alison Shanks has her programme back on schedule after her personalised track bike was returned in Christchurch today.

The bike, which was stolen from The NZ Outdoor Adventure Expo at Pioneer Leisure Centre last Friday, was located in an alley beside a local cycle shop this afternoon.

The bike was specially designed for Shanks to ride on the track and also had aerodynamically designed handlebars for the individual pursuit world champion.

Shanks was looking to use a make-shift bike for next week’s training camp and upcoming World Cup, although was upset at the loss after she had just returned from wind tunnel testing in San Diego to hone her riding position for the bike.

“I was extremely upset when it was stolen,” Shanks said. “It had thrown my whole campaign into turmoil.

“I am so happy with the news that the bike had been returned and I want to thank the media for their support in bringing this to the attention of those who had taken the bike. It is great news and I am looking forward to picking it up this week and getting my season back on track.”
