Kiwi girls gutsy effort in mountain bike race

As the Kiwi boys took the glory in the men's cross country mountain bike race with gold and silver at Commonwealth Games, the Kiwi girls put in gutsy efforts to come in 6th and 8th. Karen Hanlen came up the field from 9th place after the first lap to take the 6th place in 1.43.31 just +0.03 off 5th place.

Kate Fluker (1.44.56) from Queenstown came in 8th after a first lap 11th place. 

Catharine Pendrel of Canada led all the way to come in with a time of 1.39.29 to take the gold, with teammate Emily Batty (1.40.93) taking silver.
