Big Boys Toys continues to ramp up the action with the announcement that Yamaha sponsored Aussie street bike stunt-rider Dave Mckenna will be topping the bill in the Action Arena for 2014.

26 year old Dave Mckenna is a legend-in-the-making, voted Australia’s #1 freestyle stunt rider for making his Yamaha MT-09 perform extreme stunts on almost any piece of track, tarmac or street venue.

Big Boys Toys festival director Sandra Greer says that Mckenna will light up the festival with his range of breathtaking tricks and stunts.

“Dave Mckenna is the kind of talent you don’t get to see often. What he does on a Yamaha has to be seen to be believed and we expect him to be a huge drawcard for the three big days of Big Boys Toys this year,” she said.

Mckenna developed his passion for riding at the age of five on Motocross bikes, following his father who was a former MX rider. It was in his early twenties that Mckenna swapped codes to street bike stunt riding; turning pro in 2007 and by 2013 had become the first Australian stunt performer to be signed by Yamaha.

But it was his full length TVC for the new Yamaha MT-09 that made Mckenna a household name and he’s since taken his stunt modified MT-09’s to new heights at events such as the A1 Grand Prix, China Super bikes Championship, V8 Supercars, Moto GP, Nitro Championships and York Motorcycle Festival.

Having himself beaten cancer twice during his life, Mckenna has devoted much of his time to charity works and awareness raising performances for a number of organisations including Make a Wish Foundation, Cancer Council Australia, the Sony Foundation, Breast Cancer Network Australia and the Black Dog Ride.

Yamaha Motor New Zealand’s Marketing & Communications Manager, Ollie Sharp says that Mckenna is an extraordinary ambassador for the brand and an immensely talented athlete.

“It is great to be able to bring a rider of this class to New Zealand for the first time,” says Sharp.

“What he can do with Yamaha’s 850cc triple-cylinder street bike, MT-09, is simply sensational and it is fantastic how he brings out the raw, fun side of the powerful street machine.

“It is very hard to do what he does and we have no doubt his performance will leave the huge crowds expected at this year’s Big Boys Toys completely awestruck.”

Big Boys Toys has been growing in strength since its re-boot in 2011 and this year will be the biggest in a decade, with attractions completely filling the ASB Showgrounds venue.

More announcements of top international talent will follow in coming weeks.

Big Boys Toys happens at the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland, 7th – 9th November 2014.
