Anna Frost of Dunedin won the Bear 100 ultramarathon in her first attempt at a 100-mile (160km) race. She won in a women's record for the event of 20:59:24 in finishing sixth overall.

''What an experience,'' she said after the race.

''My first 100-miler. It was beautiful. It was tough but somehow not as bad as I imagined.
''It was a team effort. Without my wonderful crew/pacers I would definitely still be out there.''

The race, limited to 300 runners, is very challenging, with 6700m of climbing and descending over at least 12 passes and with an average elevation of 2300m, travelling over the Wasatch and Bear River ranges. The highest point is the Gates of Paradise at 2756m.
