If innovation is the key to ongoing success, then one of New Zealand’s longest running Mountain Bike series looks set to retain its popularity for years to come.

As entries open for the Nzo Ride Central Winter MTB Series organisers have announced some exciting format changes for 2015. While the classic old school one lap race format will not change, the addition of timed enduro segments throughout the course will add an exciting new dimension to the events. With prizes for up for grabs not only in each race, but also the series; the new enduro segments are sure to spice up the racing right throughout the field.

“The philosophy around our events is always about providing a great experience for everyone” says director Tim Farmer. “So we are always looking for new ways to add value for our entrants. We want everyone to challenge themselves, and ultimately succeed. So not only will competitors be looking at their final result, but we expect significant bragging rights to be on the line when it comes to the enduro rankings” Farmer adds with a wry smile.

“Enduro” has rapidly became the new buzzword in MTB, as participants are timed on short predominantly downhill segments of trail designed to replicate a typically competitive ride amongst friends. Farmer sees a real opportunity to embrace the increasingly popular style of racing into the classic XC formula.

In an extra twist, the highly sought after King and Queen of the series titles will not just be awarded on overall race results; rather a combined ranking of race results and enduro. Something organisers feel will help them uncover the ultimate all-round MTB athletes.

Now entering its 13th year the series is enjoying a surge in popularity, highlighted by an average entry of more than 550 per event last year. Numbers that delighted the team at Nduro events, but more importantly gives them confidence they are on the right track.

“We are trying to create that ultimate event experience. It’s not good enough to just have a really cool course. Competitors have to feel part of something special.” Says Farmer “We are a community, and we like to look after one another. So we’ve added free professional event photos, personalised race plates, medals at every event, and guaranteed prize money. We think that’s pretty cool.”

In an added bonus, the first 300 entrants to the series will receive a limited edition NZO hoodie (valued at $89). So you need to act fast.

Utilising Rotorua’s world renowned MTB trail network, the series offers 3 different race distances ensuring there is an event for all levels of experience and ability. Short (12-20km), Medium (25-35km), and Long (40-55km) courses provide achievable challenges for
everybody.
