Sophie went into the final with the fastest time and Championships record.  She was looking to chase her world record in this event set at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.  Sophie put everything on the line to swim 2:26.51, less than one second off her own world record.

Mary Fisher was again on the hunt for medals winning Silver in the Women’s S11 400m Freestyle.

She swam a strong race only coming in behind the World Record holder in this event Daniela Schulte (Germany).

Paralympian Nikita Howarth had a great day in the pool setting an Oceania record and personal best time of 1:29.77 to qualify for the Women’s SB8 100m Breaststroke.  She went on to place 6th in the final in 1:28.77 and take another second off the Oceania record.

Jon Shaw (PNZ Head Performance Coach) said, "It was another great day in the pool for the New Zealand Para-Swimming Team at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow.

Sophie Pascoe had an outstanding swim producing a world class result.  And Nikita Howarth swam times she has not been able to achieve for the past two years.”  He continues, “Based on the teams performances so far at the Championships we have now secured two slots for the nation at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.”

The morning heats session included Jesse Reynolds (Men’s S9 100m Freestyle) producing a fast time of 1:01.51 placing 8th.
