There are few things in life more satisfying than running your first full or half marathon, and the feeling of achievement, pride and sheer relief in knowing that you got the job done.

The same can be said for raising money that truly makes a difference in your community.

This year, together with ASB, St John is giving ASB Auckland Marathon and half marathon runners the option to run for St John and help raise much-needed funds for the team. By running on behalf of St John, you will receive access to an online training guide and tips, support from the fundraising team and a dri-fit shirt or singlet to run in.

What’s more, you’ll be helping St John to buy a defibrillator to help care for your community.

All around New Zealand, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – St John members care for communities, help people in medical and accident emergencies, and relieve sickness and injury.

St John Head of Partnerships, Robyn Tane, says: “St John relies on donations from New Zealanders to continue the life-saving work done in local communities. Support from both ASB and the runners who will be running on behalf of St John is very much appreciated.”

ASB Executive General Manager Marketing and Communications Roger Beaumont says the strong charity component of the ASB Auckland Marathon is what sets the event apart: “By participating in the event, not only will you be doing something rewarding for yourself, you’ll also be doing the community a great service. You never know when you or a loved one may need St John. We would love to see as many runners as possible running for St John.”

Defibrillator cost
1x Defibrillator costs approx. $30,000
It would only take 300 runners raising $100 each for St John to buy one defibrillator.
A defibrillator is the most crucial piece of equipment a paramedic carries. It provides an electric shock, or defibrillation to the heart. This allows the heart’s normal electrical cycle to start up again. A defibrillator shocks the heart back into rhythm and are essential in the chain of survival for somebody suffering cardiac arrest.
