ŠKODA invites keen cyclists to become part of Team ŠKODA

Twice World Champion Cyclist, Alison Shanks, has teamed up with ŠKODA New Zealand to reveal a new cycling membership group, Team ŠKODA, which encourages Kiwis to cycle in team events.

The group is open to people of all cycling abilities and backgrounds. Members will receive exclusive benefits, such as:

- Expert advice and tips from gold-medal winning ŠKODA Cycling Ambassadors to help with training, race-day preparation and nutrition
- Invitations to exclusive Team ŠKODA functions and training events with New Zealand‘s elite cyclists
- The opportunity to race at the five ŠKODA-sponsored events across New Zealand as a Team ŠKODA Accredited Rider with discounted entry rates and a free cycling jersey

The five cycling events, where ŠKODA is the Official Vehicle Partner, include:

- Bike The Bridge, Auckland – Sunday 15th November
- Tour de Ranges, Auckland – Saturday 16th January
- The Rev, Cambridge – Saturday 20th February
- Motatapu, Queenstown – Saturday 5th March
- Le Race, Christchurch – Saturday 19th March

“The Team ŠKODA initiative opens a big door and gives any Kiwi who just loves riding a bike an opportunity to experience what it‘s like to be part of a team.

Team ŠKODA riders will personally get to know our elite New Zealand riders, race in their Team ŠKODA jersey and experience for themselves what it’s like to be a pro-cyclist, the sweat, the pain and the fun of it all,“ says Shanks.

ŠKODA’s General Manager, Greg Leet, says, “We are thrilled to launch our new Team ŠKODA to help promote the benefits of cycling, particularly as a team sport, and to encourage more New Zealanders to take it up.“

Team ŠKODA already sponsors Cycling New Zealand and the National Cycling Centre of Excellence – The Avantidrome. ŠKODA NZ also supports an ambassador programme of young cyclists, and sponsors of the World Champion New Zealand Men‘s Sprint Cycling Team which sees them all driving the ŠKODA Octavia RS.

ŠKODA’s involvement with cycling dates back to the start of the company in 1895 when its founders Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement began manufacturing bicycles in their home town of Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic. The manufacturer provides vehicles to the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta España, as well as other major cycling races across the world.

Cyclists can sign up to be a Team ŠKODA member by visiting the ŠKODA website: www.skoda.co.nz/pages/teamskoda.aspx
