Award-winning students from the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music will take the stage for the Mayor’s Music Matinee on Friday 3 June.

The free lunchtime concert will take place in the Council’s Reception Lounge in Civic Square at 1pm. The concert is a part of the Mayor’s Music Matinee series, which is jointly organised by Waikato University’s Conservatorium of Music and the Council.

Top students from the Conservatorium will play many renowned, well-loved pieces of music, including Brahms's C minor piano quartet, Ravel's Piano Trio in A minor, along with pieces from Mozart's opera: The Marriage of Figaro.

Performers include cellist Matthias Balzat, who has first prize in the PACANZ NZ Young Performer of the Year 2016 and National Concerto Competition 2015, and placed second in the Gisborne International Instrumental Competition. Also performing is University of Waikato Concerto Competition winning violinist Rachel Twyman, award-winning chamber music players Noelle Dannenbring and Alex Geary and nationally recognised soloists from the new Opera Studies course run by Dame Malvina Major.
