There is over 30 hours of performances in this power-packed programme featuring some of the very best musicians from around the globe, with over 300 artists representing 21 countries.

The festival artists who will be holding cooking demonstrations at Nova Energy Taste The World hosted by Jax Hamilton have also been announced.

WOMAD NZ are releasing the schedule for the highly anticipated new festival feature, the World of Words plus for the first time ever the Kidzone schedule will bereleased ahead of the festival.

Building on the success of the Oyster and Bubbles bar in 2016, the Gables House Lawn will be transformed into the ika bar, an intimate space for those looking to indulge in some fine hors d'oeuvres and wine.

WORLD OF WORDS

A new addition to the festival programme that celebrates the written and spoken word, designed to inspire people to think, talk, laugh, listen, learn and participate! The sessions with be a mixture of speakers, interviews, presentations as well as a poetry slam and the aim of each session is to encourage ongoing and informed conversation.

KIDZONE 

WOMAD prides itself on being a family friendly music festival and has activities for all ages. It’s a safe and welcoming environment for families and children (12 and under) where creativity, stories and entertainment are in abundance. This year’s theme of Nature and Ecology will be interpreted through many workshops and activities. Kidzone has a magical festival atmosphere and to top it all off its absolutely free!

INTRODUCING THE IKA BAR

ika  [E-kah] (noun) fish, marine animal, aquatic animal - any creature that swims in fresh or salt water. Building on the success of the Oyster and Bubbles bar in 2016, the Gables House Lawn will be transformed into the ika bar, an intimate space for those looking to indulge in some fine hors d'oeuvres and wine.  Tickets are $35 per person and include two glasses of Alan Scott Cecilia Brut NV and Salmon three ways! There are four sessions available over the festival weekend and each session is 60 minutes.

WOMAD 2017 sees the festival celebrate its 13th anniversary in the stunning 55-acre Brooklands Park and TSB Bowl of Brooklands, New Plymouth. Over the years, WOMAD NZ, has rightfully gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful outdoor festivals in the world.

The main stage is set at the base of a natural amphitheatre and not only provides a stunning setting, but an acoustic experience second to none. The other three stages are located throughout Brooklands Park, with every square inch oozing the vibrancy of WOMAD.
 
The maximum capacity for WOMAD is 12,500 ticket holders per day so you’ll never feel like you are in a mosh pit – in fact bring a blanket and enjoy refreshments in stylish chill out areas, watch a cooking demonstration or explore the stalls and workshops, the kids will be entertained at Kidzone with workshops especially for them spread over the weekend. WOMAD’s not just music! There’s plenty of other things on site to discover, come along and soak up the warmth of the WOMAD vibe.

The WOMAD campsite is situated next to the festival within the New Plymouth Racecourse and TSB Stadium. The festival site is also located a short distance from New Plymouth’s centre, if you book early you could even get a motel or hotel or house close enough to walk.
