If Santa didn’t bring you what you asked for this Christmas, a 10 minute bike trip could win you great prizes from an e-bike to ski passes, in the Aotearoa Bike Challenge this February.

The NZ Transport Agency has brought the global Love to Ride challenge to New Zealand as the Aotearoa Bike Challenge to help Kiwis give cycling a go with tips, workplace challenges and great prizes. One lucky cyclist could take home a new Avanti eBike valued at $3,300. The bike, the Discovery Low E, is built for comfort - with a soft seat, upright riding position and Shimano STEPS electronic assist, to go further with ease.

With New Zealand’s sometimes hilly landscape, electric bikes are an excellent option for everyday Kiwis looking to give cycling a go, says NZ Transport Agency National Cycling Manager Dougal List.

“With an eBike cycling is possible for so many more New Zealanders – this is a wonderful prize and hopefully it inspires people to sign up to the Challenge!”

Taking part in the Challenge is simple, he says. “It’s easy to find the opportunity to cycle for just 10 minutes. It will make you feel great and the Challenge is the perfect opportunity to get on your bike and reap the benefits that cycling offers.”

The Challenge runs throughout February, and all participants are eligible for the more than 1,000 prizes - from great bike accessories to one of five full day lift passes at Cardrona Ski Resort and a 40” Panasonic Smart TV.

Participation in the Aotearoa Bike Challenge also puts individuals in with a chance to win the global Love to Ride prize of an adventure holiday to either Croatia or British Columbia.

Taking part is easy, with online registration and recording of your bike rides. In addition to the major prizes there are also books, cycling gear, and clothes to give away and the first new 600 riders who log a ride in the Aotearoa Challenge will automatically win a free cinema ticket.

The Aotearoa Bike Challenge is not about who can ride the most kilometres, but who can encourage the most people to give cycling a try. Workplaces are being encouraged to participate, and the distance ridden by every a business team contributes towards the efforts of the organisation as a whole. This means the more people you get involved, the more chance you have of winning great prizes.
