CAMILLA explores unchartered territory for the brand with a collection that pays homage to art, fashion and the history of China and Tibet. An extension of the brand’s traditional bold prints, the collection welcomes new silhouettes in an unexpected form for CAMILLA.

One of her largest global collections to date, encompassing women’s, swim, men’s, kids’ and accessories, the CAMILLA dance of colour and embellishment is truly alive in this vibrant celebration of traditional art forms. Rich with the opulent colour palettes synonymous with Chinese and Tibetan aesthetics, the prints are travelogues from Camilla’s personal travels to the homes of Miao and Kaili minority artisans, hidden tranquil garden settings, batik schools, chanting monasteries and bustling market places.

Many inspired by familiar Chinese wardrobe staples, the regal Dragon Lady Side Split Kimono is a nod to the ferocious Chinese Zodiac, while the playful Hani Honey Bomber Jacket features a crystal embellishment slogan across the back. Reinterpretation of classic finishes and cuts that hark back to dynasty days; printed leather, frog knots, fitted pencil skirts, jade tassels and mandarin collars create a structured tone which is boldly offset by CAMILLA’s core bohemian pieces. A fusion of old world CAMILLA and the new.

“Far beyond the city lights and high into the foothills reside the true artists of China and Tibet. A collective who fled from conformity to live and love in the soul of their art and to uphold its legacy. Language barriers aside, these souls extended the teachings of their old-as-time art. It was a true honour to be welcomed into their world,” says designer Camilla Franks.

Camilla Franks journeyed off-the-beaten path to nearly 20 destinations, including Lhasa, Khali and Hani in a month-long pursuit to discover traditional art forms and textiles. The Chinese Whispers collection serves as a tribute to the time-honoured techniques embedded in Chinese traditions and amplifies the power of art to create personal identity.

“This collection is one for the rebels,” says Franks, “The defiant. The ones who dare to dream greatly and fearlessly.”

The collection launches in store and online with a continuous reveal of prints and silhouettes throughout the season.
