To launch the 0809 Contact Energy Scorching Triathlon series, 12 swimmers will ‘Swim to Wagamamas for a free lunch’ on Wednesday 12th of November in the Wellington Harbour.

Wagamamas is a sponsor of this Triathlon series and on their website underneath ‘transport information’ they suggest several ways to get to the restaurant:

“transport information : crawl, walk, run....you can even swim to wagamama wellington!”

The organisers are therefore taking the restaurant up on their suggestion and will prove that you can indeed ‘swim to Wagamama Wellington’.

Places for this midday Harbour Swim have been limited to 12. They were fiercely contested between the applicants who had to prove not only their physical ability to complete the swim but also had to prove their passion for their local ‘Scorcher’ triathlon series. For those lucky enough to be chosen, anticipation is now high for the 2km swim which will begin at approximately midday on Wednesday 12th of November.

A Wagamama waiter will take their order on the beach just before they begin their swim. Approximately 30 minutes later, the swimmers will arrive at Wagamama Wellington where they will be served their lunch.

Event Organiser, Daryl Bloomfield, said ‘Triathletes are known to be a bit ‘crazy’ in a good way, and we knew our participants would jump at this unique opportunity. We’re looking forward to starting off the series in style and with large injection of fun in a truly Wellington & Wagamama way’.

The Contact Energy Scorching Triathlons is a local Wellington Triathlon series which is run by two Wellingtonians, a brother and sister team, Daryl & Keri Bloomfield.

The series began four years ago, and since then the brother and sister duo have worked hard to create a very successful and well respected Triathlon series. The series now averages over 200 participants per event.

Contact Energy has been the main sponsor of the series since 2005.

A unique factor in this series is the loyal support by the participants (both regulars and first-timers). The atmosphere created at each event is always welcoming, well organised and professional.

The Scorcher launch - swim to Wagamama’s for a free lunch, will happen on Wednesday 12th of November, in the Wellington Harbour.

There will be 12 swimmers, who will be joined by a group of loyal participants and supporters on land at Wagamama Wellington, where they will eat their ‘free lunch’.
