Reduced calorie and alcohol wine products serve up a smarter choice this summer

New Zealand’s first range of wine products to boast less calories and lighter alcohol*, LINDEMANS Early Harvest, is arriving just in time to give people a refreshingly crisp, lighter style to enjoy during the upcoming months of summer socialising and festive functions.

All three varieties in the LINDEMANS Early Harvest’s range (Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé and Sparking) serve up 30 percent fewer calories and 30 percent less alcohol than regular wines* – while still maintaining superb varietal flavours.

LINDEMANS Early Harvest winemakers have crafted this new range of crisp, refreshing, lighter wine products, that have less calories and alcohol*, by harvesting grapes early in the season (because these yield less sugar) and employing some careful and innovative winemaking techniques.

A standard 150 ml glass of Early Harvest Semillon Sauvignon Blanc has only approximately 70 calories – roughly the same amount as a medium apple.

LINDEMANS Early Harvest is also 30 percent lighter in alcohol*.

Most wines we drink generally sit at around 12-14 percent alcohol volume for whites, 13-15 percent for reds and 12-13 percent for sparkling varieties. LINDEMANS has reduced the alcohol in the Early Harvest range by 30 percent to between 7.5 and 8.5 percent volume*.

Agencies such as ALAC recommend New Zealand women drink no more than 14 standard drinks a week and no more than four in any one sitting (the numbers are slightly higher for men at 21 a week and six a session). Switching to a wine with lighter alcohol (and not increasing the amount you drink) reduces the amount of alcohol you consume.
