Three of the four weeks in April are short weeks with statutory holidays and workers often scramble to get their normal workloads done....resulting in extra stress.

Janice Davies - who died and was revived in October 2010, blames some of the stress from the recession on her health hiccup.

Finally after 18 months absence from public workshops, Janice is returning and offering suggestions to others with these three upcoming short weeks in April.

Some of these are common sense, but people have to actually make the effort to change their routines to reduce their stress levels, she says.

In the United States and the European Union, 30 40% of workers are exposed to work stress, and these rates appear to have increased since the 1990

A New Zealand study (2006) of 900 participants over a 32 year period revealed the influence of work stress on diagnosed depression and anxiety in young working adults. The study revealed members who were exposed to high psychological job demands, their risk was two times higher than in those with low demands. It also states that at the individual level, effective coping skills and relaxation techniques help workers better manage work stress and reduce the risk of psychiatric disorder. In the study of young workers, 45% of new cases of depression and anxiety were attributable to work stress

A famous quote about stress says: "Stress is like an iceberg. We can see one-eighth of it above, but what about what's below."

That's true, says Janice, .it's not one deadline missed because of the short weeks or email unfinished it's when it is repeated constantly that 'stress' symptoms start affecting our bodies.

It's over these next four weeks that people will be rushing to get away for the weekends or school holidays, so it is a great time for people to be conscious of their stress levels and take action.
