Suunto upgrades original sports watch while next gen Ambit2 is awarded for design

Proving its commitment to customers Suunto has released an upgrade to its first generation Ambit sports watch – just as the second generation Suunto Ambit2 Sapphire has won a coveted Red Dot technology design award.

In an age when consumers are constantly urged to upgrade their technology to new versions, no matter how much they’ve invested in the original, Suunto has rewarded loyal users of its first generation Ambit sports watch with a software upgrade.

The SW2.5 upgrade provides Ambit first generation users with some of the features they’ve most requested, particularly enhanced app functionality.

In launching the update Suunto announced its intention was to maintain the first generation Ambit watch as well as the App Zone and the sharing features and improvements at Movescount.com to ensure the watch continues to evolve over the coming years.

Meanwhile Sunnto’s second generation Ambit2 Sapphire has been honoured with a prestigious Red Dot award.

Established in 1955 the Red Dot awards honour product designs that stand out for their innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecology and durability.

The Suunto Ambit2 Sapphire was one of only a few select products given the Red Dot top award out of almost 5000 entries.

With its advanced features and stylish look, the Ambit2 Sapphire is a hallmark of the Suunto design. The brushed steel bezel and sapphire crystal glass not only add a premium look but another level of robustness, while the strong, glass fibre reinforced casing is shaped to ensure comfort on the wrist.

The Suunto Ambit2 Sapphire is part of the Ambit collection of watches for adventurers, explorers and multisport athletes. It offers route navigation, barometric information, altimeter with FusedAltimTM, 3D compass and other outdoor functions.
