ecostore has washed away the downsides of using fabric softener with the launch of a new tallow-free version; the latest addition to its laundry product range.

With tallow-free, plant-based properties, ecostore fabric softener is a healthier option for making clothes and towels soft and one that’s safer for people prone to skin irritations, allergies and asthma.

Fabric softener is a popular feature in Kiwi laundries with Aztec Scan Data (for the period ending 14 December 2008) revealing New Zealanders spent $10.7 million on fabric softeners in the last year.

But ecostore chief executive Mitch Cuevas says the synthetic chemicals and artificial perfumes in conventional fabric softeners have seen many ecostore customers eager for a healthier alternative.

He says consumers may be surprised to know that tallow, derived from beef or mutton fat, is a commonly used ingredient in conventional fabric softeners.

However, the ecostore product is “tallow-free” and like all ecostore products, does not contain synthetic chemicals or artificial perfumes, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

Several other properties position ecostore fabric softener on the leading edge of eco-science:

- One of the components, the “lipid layer enhancer”, acts as a skin conditioner to help those with sensitive skin.
- The fabric softener is also highly biodegradable, making it safe for septic systems.
- The ingredient that makes fabric feel soft is derived from plant sources, making it a more sustainable option.

“With the addition of fabric softener to our plant-based laundry range, customers can enjoy softer laundry without compromising their health or the health of the planet,” says Cuevas.

ecostore’s new fabric softener comes in a 500ml bottle with a convenient measuring cap and pour spout making it easy to use and is available in supermarkets and health stores nationwide, and on-line at www.ecostore.co.nz  from mid-March.
