Meet the women of the New Zealand Olympic Winter Team who will be competing in Sochi, Russia from 7 – 23 February 2014. These eight ladies are part of a fifteen strong team and will represent New Zealand in the adrenaline-filled sports of freeski, snowboard and skeleton. Today we feature Rebecca ‘Bex’ Sinclair

Discipline: Snowboard Halfpipe

About: Bex is one of only three members of the NZ team to have attended an Olympic Games previously, and the only one of the female team members. She represented NZ in snowboard halfpipe at the Vancouver Games in 2010 and is looking forward to being part of the team to Sochi.

The road to Sochi has been a challenging one for Bex who suffered an ACL injury at the start of the 2012/13 northern hemisphere winter, just as Olympic qualifying was beginning. Following surgery and six month of rehab Bex got back in to training, even more determined to reach her goal of an Olympic podium. By January 2014 she had achieved a number two ranking on the World Cup circuit and 12th place on overall world rankings.

Aside from training hard for the Olympics Bex is also studying towards a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology and plans to pursue a career in Neuropsychology.
