Simone Maier 9th at Challenge Roth

Simone Maier (Wanaka) finished ninth at Challenge Roth, Germany on Sunday in 9h 31m 24s.

With a solid bike leg in 5h 0m 57s Simone finished the leg in 10th place. Her run time of 3h 23m 17s was good to gain a further place, passing German Saniela Sämmler.

Australian Mirinda Carfrae won the race on debut, posting the fourth fastest time ever, 8h 38m 53s.

“I’ve heard so much about the race hard not to get wound up in the emotion, the last 1km the crowds were amazing and felt myself getting emotional. I felt like I was going to cry,” said Carfrae.

German Timo Bracht won the men's race in 7h 56m 0s, a popular win with the large crowd.
