As of tomorrow Wednesday 5th November 2014, movie lovers around the country can visit their local participating cinema and swap a can for a movie ticket to see a blockbuster film at next week’s Wattie’s Can’s Film Festival.

The Festival, which takes place nationwide on Wednesday 12th November, is celebrating its 21st anniversary of helping New Zealanders in need by collecting cans for The Salvation Army’s Foodbanks. Wattie’s then matches each can donated at the Festival.

Back in 1993 when the Festival began Jurassic Park was taking the cinema world by storm, while Mrs Doubtfire and Shindler’s List were among the most popular films of the year and 11-year-old Anna Paquin appeared in her Oscar winning role in Kiwi film The Piano. This year’s film line up also has something for everyone with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Planes: Fire & Rescue, The Giver, The Boxtrolls, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Events, Hoyts, Reading Cinemas and independent cinemas around the country will host the 21st annual festival and Val Morgan Cinema Network is donating cinema advertising. Cans of food can be exchanged for movie tickets at participating cinemas from Wednesday 5th November right up to the Festival night (Wednesday 12th November).
