Influenced by a career in travel and hospitality and inspired by effortless classic style, Vikki Scotts has launched her first complete resort wear collection - Vikki Australia - a line of glamourous kaftans, hand-embroidered tunics, exotic sarongs, shoes, beads and accessories.

The quintessential holiday wardrobe, Vikki Australia was created so women could look and feel amazing while on holiday. The luxurious 55-piece Vikki Australia Summer 2015 Collection was three years in the making, and offers a variety of exquisite resort wear pieces from size S to XXL.

Casual but stunning, classic but sexy, effortless but chic, the collection is available in a range of stunning shades and light, breezy fabrics. Each piece in the stylish collection features incredible detail, including hand-beaded Swarovski crystals and traditional Indian embroidery techniques. Inspired by Vikki's own extensive travels around the world, the collection also includes a range of children’s resort wear.

Vikki’s passion for resort wear began in her younger years, when she was given the opportunity to travel the world with her family. Later, her own global career in Hotel Management would see Vikki work in Switzerland, Hawaii and New York City for some of the finest hotel brands in the world. After nine years in New York, Vikki then spent eight years travelling the world on a luxury cruise ship.

Vikki says it was during this time spent in far-away lands that she dreamt of designing a beautiful resort wear collection. Inspired by the beaches of the Maldives, Cote d'Azur and bustling streets of Mumbai, to safaris in Africa, Vikki returned to Australia and decided to make her dream into a reality.

“I worked in hospitality for 20 years in some of the most beautiful holiday locations in the world, and was continually surprised by the lack of resort wear available,” Vikki said.

“Even something as simple as a sarong was difficult to find. And then when I did find something special – I would be asked 100 times where I bought it. So I knew there was a growing market.

“The idea of resort wear was once a luxury fashion trend for elites and socialites but now with the world travelling so freely, it has become a year-round fashion trend.

“And teaming glamour with comfort, I believe it will continue to grow in popularity.”

Vikki said she never set out to do serious or structured fashion; she simply wanted to create a stunning, relaxed travel and lounge wear range, along with a few statement pieces, perfect to wear while vacationing on a tropical island.

“Simplicity was my focus, while price and sizing were key factors in the design process,” Vikki said.

“I’m an extra-large and I could never find anything to fit, so I wanted to address that. Everybody deserves to look good on holiday.”

Vikki said the range was very affordable, with most garments under $150, except one kaftan which is hand embroidered with Swarovski crystals, and retails at $259. The luxurious selection of sarongs range from $35 to $65.

She said sarongs were her own favourite fashion accessory and one she never travels without, no matter what the season. It’s for this reason, almost 90 percent of Vikki Australia garments come with a matching sarong.

In creating Vikki Australia, Vikki spent more than two years researching and sourcing manufacturers and expert embroiders to create beautiful garments that featured incredible attention to detail, while blending Western and Eastern elements.

A signature of the Vikki Australia collection is the use of the traditional Indian embroidery technique, Chikan, which is hand-stitched using traditional techniques in India.

To ensure the range featured the authentic ancient design, Vikki embarked on several trips to India, a country she has long loved, to seek out experts in Chikankari - the process of Chikan. She was surprised to find the practice is a slowly dying art-form.

“I met Mr Mehra, a wonderful man who runs a factory where they still hand stitch Chikan,” Vikki said.

“He said to me ‘Look around: all the young Indian women are wearing jeans and Western clothing; they have no need for Chikan’. So he was really pleased that I had chosen to feature Chikan in my range, exposing more people to this beautiful, traditional craft, while at the same time keeping people employed.”

As well as manufacturing in India, Vikki Australia is also produced in several other countries including Australia.

Vikki says that while she began designing for a particular age group, she has since realised the range is suitable for any age and size.

“I guess I was designing for women my age in the beginning, but we have so many younger women who love the range as well,” Vikki says.

Vikki Australia will release just one collection per year, with the brand set to go international early next year.

Available to purchase online and through selected stockists, the debut collection features 55 stunning garments, from kaftans to sarongs, tunics, swim wear, sandals and accessories for women and children.

It hasn’t been an easy road; there have been thousands of hours of research, travel and hard work, but Vikki says she is thrilled with the result that has produced a unique, luxe holiday collection.

“I’m so proud of the range; I just can’t wait for people to see the collection and hope they love it as much as I do and more importantly - enjoy wearing it. It’s all about comfort as well as looking good.”

Vikki Australia offers easy to pack, lightweight and comfortable clothes to wear while vacationing in the tropics. It is a cross-cultural style that signifies relaxation, sophistication and an appreciation of nature, which in-turn displays the wearer’s true sense of style.

Vikki Australia’s launch photo shoot was shot on location at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort in Queensland by renowned fashion photographer Nick Leary, with the range modelled by Camille Piazza.
