There’ll be no love lost this Valentine’s Day as around 800 of the worlds toughest multisport competitors battle it out in the 33rd Speight’s Coast to Coast.

An epic 243km of running, cycling and kayaking, the Speight’s Coast to Coast is the stuff legends are made of. She’s not everyone’s idea of a romantic getaway, which is unfortunate as the Speight’s Coast to Coast course features some of the worlds most picturesque locations.

Starting by the Tasman Sea at the West Coast’s Kumara Beach, traversing Goat Pass, through Arthur’s Pass National Park, down the Waimakariri River, across the Canterbury Plains and finishing at New Brighton beach for the first time, competitors will be greeted by the best tasting Speight’s Gold Medal Ale they’ve ever had.

With top competitors taking a grueling 10 ¾ hours to cover the course, while the slowest time ever recorded was 24 ½ hours – nothing to be scoffed at. It’s been described as the iconic New Zealand adventure and more symbolic of the Kiwi spirit than any other race.

The event brings elite multisport athletes from around the world and more than 20,000 competitors have crossed the South Island – West Coast to East – over the event history.

Speight’s Gold Medal Ale is once again the official beer of this year’s race and will be available from late December in a special edition Speight’s Coast to Coast 2015 can. Full of flavour with malt and hops shining through, she’ll be a very welcome sight come the finish line.
