100  businesses will battle it out to prove who is the fittest in town and who can raise the most money for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) when they take on the Corporate Sky Tower Stair Challenge on Friday 14 August.

The event which sees 100 mixed teams of five taking on 51 flights of stairs of the iconic Sky Tower opened last week. It provides the only opportunity for members of the public to race up the iconic Auckland landmark

A diverse range of Kiwi organisations from across the country have already signed up to take on the Challenge including SKYCITY, Farmers Trading Company, ASB, The New Zealand Police, NZME and Matamata Primary School.

The teams are aiming to each raise $5,000 with an overall fundraising target of $500,000 for the event.  The 2014 Corporate Sky Tower Stair Challenge saw 80 teams raise $255,000 for LBC.

The money raised from this event funds LBC’s work, including research and support of the six Kiwis diagnosed every day with a blood cancer or related condition and their families. LBC receives no Government funding.

Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s CEO Pru Etcheverry says she is excited about holding the event for the fourth year.

“It’s great to see the field is filling up so fast. Blood cancers and related conditions can affect anyone, so it’s excellent to see business people giving back to their communities by supporting this event. We are delighted to see teams from outside Auckland sign up too.”

SKYCITY NZ Chief Operating Officer John Mortensen says the event is a great opportunity for everyday Kiwis to climb up Auckland’s most iconic structure.

“This event provides a rare opportunity to not only race up the Sky Tower, but support a worthwhile charity, Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. We’ve been working with LBC for more than a decade and look forward to helping them continue their valuable work with families around New Zealand.”
