A 1980s computer game-style campaign, Roundabout Respect, has been launched by the Hamilton City Council to target driver behaviour at Hamilton’s 101 roundabouts.

Roundabout Respect includes a series of game-style videos showing the most common driver faux pas at roundabouts, and includes a short quiz which gives you chance to win one of four $50 petrol vouchers.

Hamilton City Council’s acting City Transportation Manager Robyn Denton, says the campaign is a unique way to encourage drivers to follow the road rules.

“We initially launched this campaign in 2014 and it successfully engaged drivers in our community, and we’re hoping to build on that this year. Roundabout Respect is about drivers being courteous to other road users at roundabouts, and when this happens, everyone wins.

“Driver behaviour and know-how is the most important part of making sure roundabouts are safe. Not indicating, blocking ‘keep clear’ zones, using the wrong lane and going too fast are the main driver faux pas we’re targeting. When everyone shows some Roundabout Respect everyone wins.”

The Council is asking drivers to put their Roundabout Respect skills to the test and take their quick online quiz at hamilton.govt.nz/respect.

Hard copies of the quiz are also available at Hamilton City Libraries.

Enter before the end of July and you’ll be in to win one of four $50 petrol vouchers.
