P&O Cruises’ Pacific Pearl will be gleaming when she returns to New Zealand next year, featuring a fresh contemporary look as well as the cruise line’s popular P&OEdge Adventure Park following a major refit.

Announcing details of the ship’s revamp, P&O Cruises Senior Vice President Sture Myrmell revealed Pacific Pearl would also feature some extra Kiwi flavour during her 2016 New Zealand season, with the addition of Marmite to the menu along with local wines and beers.

Mr Myrmell said Pacific Pearl’s five-month Auckland season from February to June 2016 would be the biggest yet for the cruise line.

“With a record 20 cruises in our Auckland season next year we’ve added some extra Kiwi touches to our sailings, from our food and wine offering to our entertainment,” Mr Myrmell said.

Along with a plentiful supply of Marmite, Pacific Pearl guests sailing from Auckland will enjoy more than 20 different New Zealand wines and beers and a range of fresh NZ produce, as well as New Zealand Natural ice cream. The ship’s entertainment will also be tailored to the local market, featuring Kiwi music, comedy acts and guest speakers, while the in-room televisions will offer NZ programs.

Following a major refit of the ship next month, Pacific Pearl will become the latest P&O ship to feature P&OEdge Adventure Park, offering passengers a shot of adrenaline with more than 15 great activities.  Guests will be able to hang ten on the decks on a new surfboard simulator, or enjoy favourites such as the bungy tramp, flying fox and walk the plank.
Meanwhile, a new PANDORA outlet will give guests the chance to treat themselves to some pieces from one of the region’s top jewellery brands.

In keeping with the new look being rolled out across P&O’s fleet, next month’s refit of Pacific Pearl will also include a revamp of the ship’s décor.  A fresh colour palette and contemporary furniture, wallpaper, artwork and carpet will create a modern feel for the Orient, Mix bar, Connexions, the Atrium and Luna restaurant, while the Plantation buffet will be redesigned to offer a trendy café vibe.

The multi-million dollar refurbishment will see a general refresh of guest cabins and other public spaces including the Dome, spa and Waterfront restaurant, with a total of 17,000sqm of carpet being rolled out across the ship.

Enhancing the onboard entertainment, duelling pianos will be added to The Orient turning the bar into a lively and interactive music hub.

Mr Myrmell said the refit was in line with Pacific Jewel’s recent refurbishment, as well as the contemporary design of the cruise line’s latest ships, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden, which will join the fleet in November this year.

“We can’t wait for our New Zealand guests to see the new look and enjoy all her additional features,” Mr Myrmell said.

Cruises on Pacific Pearl start from $599* per person quad share for a four-night roundtrip P&OSeaBreak cruise to Napier’s Art Deco Festival, departing Auckland on February 18, 2016.
