Hamilton City Council’s new lunchtime Seasonal Speaker Series gets underway next Tuesday (25 August) with a talk by urban designer Garth Falconer.

Featuring speakers from around the country, the quarterly events aim to inspire, inform and engage residents with subjects that influence our city’s development.

With a focus on growing cities, the talks cover a wide range of topics from urban design to substantiality.
Acting City Environments General Manager, Debra Stan-Barton says the talks are a great opportunity for professionals in the design, construction and urban development sectors to share ideas and for the public to learn about interesting innovations that can benefit our city.

“We’re really pleased to have Garth as our inaugural speaker,” she says.

“He is one of New Zealand’s foremost urban designers and has been influential in the revitalisation of central Hamilton, working on projects such as Garden Place, Centre Place and the development of a vacant lot on the corner of Angelsea and Ward Street to create a large plaza and walkway connecting to WINTEC.”

Author of landmark urban design book, Living in Paradox, Garth will discuss designing urban environments for New Zealand and the lessons we can learn from the past, with a particular focus on Hamilton.

The talk will be held in the Council’s Civic Reception Lounge at 12pm-1pm on 25 August. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
