The Hardy’s Wines Norfolk Island Pro-am Golf Classic is always a special event and this year, it was even more so with glorious spring weather every day.  Quite a few locals were overheard lamenting that the perfect conditions robbed them of their hometown advantage as there were no tricky winds or squalls to battle.

Nevertheless, it was local restaurateur’s son, Alisdair Bosley, who won the Classic’s gold jacket with a score of 5 under par 283 for the 72-hole event.  Like a few other young pros, Alisdair has been returning to Norfolk regularly for the event, and it was a cause for much celebration when he won this year.
Men’s Gross 72 hole (red jacket) winner was Shane Fitzpatrick with 286 and Heidi McCulkin won the Ladies’ Gross 72 Hole blue jacket with 315.  Mark Seller took the silver jacket (72 hole stableford) with 156 stableford points and Trudy Davis took the purple jacket with 141 points.  Ian Prendergast retained the green jacket (best visitor stableford) with 154 stableford points. The inaugural Jim Olsson Memorial Shield for overall amateur gross and stableford winners went to Shane Fitzpatrick and Mark Seller.

The nine-hole golf course in World Heritage Kingston sits at the very south-easterly edge of the island, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Norfolk’s two offshore islands, Nepean and Philip.  The scenery is spectacular, and the course presents challenges aplenty, even in perfect weather.  Plus, there are picturesque convict ruins and structures, including the heritage club house dotted throughout.
