The boys behind the ultimate neighbourhood dining experience have once again listened to critics and locals advice, further extending their offering at Meadow Restaurant. With new Head Chef, Stephen Smith on board, and a brand new menu, a lot is changing, and it’s for the better.

After living abroad for eight years in the US, UK, Canada and Europe, Smith returned to New Zealand to gain more experience at the likes of TriBeCa and The Tasting Shed amongst opening Ponsonby local, Tin Soldier. Earlier this year, Stephen set his sights on one last stop to get some final inspiration before coming home to Auckland.

Immersing himself amongst the famed food scene in Melbourne, Australia, Stephen gained great knowledge and experience assisting in the opening of The Roving Marrow; a new western style yum cha restaurant taking Melbourne by storm.

Along with his new found inspiration, and Meadow’s farm to table ethos, Stephen returned to New Zealand to use this and childhood influences to bring fresh and innovative ideas to their new menu.

Stephen goes on to explain, “At Meadow, we are lucky enough to have our own farm in Clevedon, which is the back bone of the Meadow kitchen. It drives what we use and when we use it”. This creates the ultimate organic farm to table experience. It doesn’t get much fresher than that.

Johnstone and Schmidt continue to play on what has been successful, and extend on those existing assets, which confirms their dedication to the community.  With the extension on the pavilion recently, to the new head chef and ever adapting menu, it’s obvious that Meadow’s dedication to the local community is here to stay.
