Children's Day carnival takes over central city

Hamilton’s central city will come alive on Saturday 5 March from 10am to 2pm with Children’s Day celebrations. The theme for this year’s Children’s Day is ‘Stay Active’, and all of the activities planned will help families to do just that.

Worley Pl will be closed throughout the day as Garden Place is filled with rides, stage entertainment, sports activities, face painting and much more for parents and children to enjoy together.

The Central Library plays host to parkour training and an obstacle course, Lego, stories and Rocket coffee for parents and caregivers. Waikato Museum will have entertainment and activities all day on their forecourt.

Also at the library, from 10am to 2pm children can learn how to navigate an obstacle course using basic parkour skills as taught by NZ Parkour. Parkour is a physical discipline where people adapt their normal movements to get over and around obstacles in their environment.

Meanwhile at the Museum there will be free access to Exscite and the Planet Warriors interactive science gallery for Children’s Day. From 11am Peka, the Waikato Museum mascot, will also be around to make some new friends and children can enjoy craft sessions and free face painting.

Hamilton’s Children’s Day events are organised by the Hamilton & Families Trust Working Committee, which staff from both the Waikato Museum and Library are on.
