Operators of Waitomo Glowworm Caves are proud to announce the wonderful world of New Zealand’s native glowworm is being brought to life, with the launch of a set of limited edition, collectible stamps from New Zealand Post.

Available from 2 March, the collectible stamps will feature the work of Joseph Michael’s beautiful photography and each stamp will be printed with special ink that allows the glowworms to glow in the dark- like the real mccoy!

The four new stamps in the collection feature glowworms from locations across New Zealand – including Ruakuri Cave in Waitomo.  Within the pack, information also explains what glowworms are, how long the life-cycle of a glowworm is (which is just a few days as an adult) and information on where they can be found.

Amanda Wilson, Head of Marketing, Tourism Businesses at thl, says:  “Glowworms have been part of our history in New Zealand since day dot and even the Queen has made a special visit to Waitomo to see them in the flesh.  It’s great to see NZ Post profiling the native glowworm, so that Kiwis young and old across the country can learn more about them.”

“We particularly love that the stamps will glow in the dark – reflecting the magical experience of Waitomo Glowworm Caves, famous around the world!

So get involved - add them to your stamp collection, send a postcard overseas or get the kids playing with them in the dark - the collection can be purchased from PostShops across New Zealand from 2 March – or from the Waitomo Glowworm Caves Visitor Centre.  To find out more about visiting Ruakuri Cave, please visit www.waitomo.com.
