Pooches can practise their doggie paddle and diving at Hamilton's first Paws in the Pool event at Waterworld.

On Saturday 2 April from 1pm to 4pm, Waterworld's outdoor pool will open to dogs for the first time, meaning Hamiltonians can bring their dogs for a dip.

Man's best friend will be able to participate in dog swimming races, best trick and best dressed competitions, or take a picture as a memento in the dog photo booth.

Animal Education and Control Manager Susan Stanford is hoping to make a splash with the event.
"We're excited to be able to bring together dogs and their owners at this safe and fun water-based event," says Ms Stanford.

"This is part of our ongoing education programme and allows us to celebrate responsible dog ownership with our community."

The family-friendly day will include a bouncy castle, various stalls and a demonstration from the Waikato Agility Group.

Entry to the event is $2 per dog and all proceeds will go to DC Rescue Dogs and New Lives Animal Rescue.

The event follows the day after the outdoor pool season is officially ends.

Paws in the Pool is organised by the Hamilton City Council's Animal Education and Control team and is proudly supported by Waterworld, The Breeze and Eukanuba.
