Deanwell playground open for monkey bar business

Students and the community have a new place to play following the opening of a new playground at Deanwell School this week.

It is the first partnership playground to be opened as a part of the Playgrounds of the Future Plan.
Deanwell School contributed $35,000 to the development of the playground, construction firm Downer contributed $20,000 and the remaining $85,000 came from Hamilton City Council. 

Downer works closely with the Council and was delighted to participate in the playground construction.
“Communities are at the heart of everything we do. Imagination and play is such an important part of growing up and the whole community will benefit from this playground,” says Craig West, General Manager - Infrastructure Services.

“Downer does a lot of work in parks and open spaces and it makes it all worthwhile when we see such enthusiasm from the students here today.”

The playground equipment was supplied and installed by Playground Creations and Deanwell School students had their say on the equipment and the colours.

“The new adventure playground gives our children, and those in the school community, a fantastic facility to challenge and extend themselves physically,” says Principal Pat Poland.

“The Council have been very supportive of the needs of the Deanwell community; the partnership they have developed with our school has been one of trust and mutual benefit.”

Mayor Julie Hardaker cut the ribbon on the new playground and says the opening was the first of the Council’s partnership playgrounds with the Ministry of Education.

 
“We’ve come together to create this amazing playground for the school and the local community to use and it’s great to see the kids having a ball.  Our city plans are focused on continuing to make Hamilton a place for families and this playground supports that.”

The Playgrounds of the Future Plan is about creating better playgrounds around Hamilton that provide quality and unique experiences for families.
