Let us help fund your next arts project

Hutt City Council’s Creative Communities Funding Scheme has money to give groups and individuals running arts projects in the Hutt Valley.



The scheme supports the community to be involved in the arts, whether it’s music, theatre, festivals, mural painting, outdoor sculptures, art in public spaces, kapa haka, singing, art workshops or something else.

Pippa Sanderson, Community Arts Advisor says, “We’re looking for art projects with broad community involvement, projects involving young people or projects that support the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities.

“Projects we’ve funded before include exhibitions, concerts, workshops, festivals, plays and mural projects.”



Ms Sanderson says there will be two free workshops to learn how to put together a strong application. They will be held at the War Memorial Library. People can choose either the morning workshop (Wednesday 24 August, 10am-12pm) or the evening workshop (Thursday 25 August, 5.30-7pm).

Past successful applicants include Hutt Valley Community Choir, who applied for funding to present free public performances and rehearse new songs. This performing arts opportunity for local singers has gone from strength to strength, with an average membership of 50-60 singers who share their love of music with others by performing and encouraging everyone to sing.

Susie Hardie, director of Hutt Valley Community Choir, says, “It was great to have the support from Council. The funding has enabled us to present free concerts in Lower Hutt. We performed at Dowse Square, for the Annual Community Concert for local nursing homes, and Multifest - a celebration of the diversity in our community. We have been very privileged to be able to provide such concerts, which enriched both the audience and the performers.”

“The benefit of Creative Communities is that there are two rounds each year, which means that you can apply well out from the event, so you know in advance whether you’ve got funding.”

The deadline for this round of Creative Communities applications is 26 September for projects taking place between mid-November 2016 and October 2017.
