Drop into one of Hamilton’s Libraries next month (September) and get sucked into the exciting world of comics.

Hamilton City Libraries is holding its annual Comic Book Month to celebrate the weird and wonderful world of graphic novels and visual storytelling.

The libraries’ Comic Book Month first launched with a boom in 2013 by staff who wanted to share their love for comic books with the community. The event has continued annually after its success and popularity says Hamilton City Libraries Readers Advisory/Community Outreach Librarian Tracy Robinson.

“We’re giving Hamiltonians of all ages the opportunity to immerse themselves in stories in ways other than print, as well as the chance to take part in loads of fun activities.”

A range of events, activities and competitions will run at Hamilton City Libraries during September, including:
  • Cosplay and Quiz Night: Fun for the grownups with chance to win tickets to Armageddon in Auckland and prizes from Mark One Comics
  • Reading Cards: Readers (junior, young adult and adult categories) borrowing a graphic novel on three separate visits to the library receive a honu stamp. When they have all three stamps, they can enter the card in the draw to win one of three prizes from Mark One Comics
  • Essential 100 Graphic Novels Quiz: Think you know your comics? Entrants complete a quiz (online or at Hamilton Library) and go in the draw to win a prize pack from Mark One Comics
  • Rocket on Saturday Super Hero edition: Come to Chartwell Library on 3 September from 11am to 12pm dressed as your favourite superhero to win spot prizes.
Comic Book Month starts 1 September with competitions closing 30 September. For more on Hamilton Libraries’ Comic Book Month visit hamiltonlibraries.co.nz
