With entries already up by 20% compared to the same time last year, organisers of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge - New Zealand’s largest cycling event – encouraged riders to take advantage of this year’s earlybird pricing before they closed at midnight last Friday.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary on Saturday 26 November, the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge attracts around 7,500 riders annually and is best known for its iconic ‘Round the Lake’ event category – a one lap 160km circumnavigation of Lake Taupo.

While this is its most popular category, the event also offers 13 other categories including road and MTB events of both short and longer course distances, catering for beginners through to elite riders.

With the added attraction of a 15% discount off your entry if you’re a family or group of 10 or more, the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge offers great value for money to anyone looking for an outdoor activity opportunity in one of New Zealand’s most idyllic and attractive holiday destinations.

Event Director Aaron Carter comments “With thousands already entered our 40th anniversary is going to be one to remember. The engagement from our riders is quite special, we love hearing from them and the stories they have to share, whether it’s their 25th consecutive event, the intergenerational (father / son) connection that only an event with this history can provide, or the family who just want to get out and enjoy some fun and physical activity together”.

Adding to this year’s anniversary celebrations will be the Dress Up Competition where riders are encouraged to dress up for their ride in 70’s theme to be into win a great prize from event partner Ultimo Clothing. And not to forget the over $60,000 of spot prizes up for grabs including a trip for two to Niue and the ultimate pre-Christmas gift, a brand new Holden Trax LTZ car.
