The fifth race in the Calder Stewart (South Island) Elite cycling series at Methven has been won by Tim Rush (North Otago).
 
The 26 year-old outsprinted Reon Park of Christchurch at the end of a tough 93 kilometre race that took in two steep climbs of the Rakaia Gorge, on an out and back course from Methven to Lake Coleridge and return
 
The top two finished 49 seconds up on former national champion James Williamson, Wanaka, while the big chasing peloton was led home by prominent triathlete Mike Phillips, 54 seconds behind the winner.
 
With his victory yesterday Rush holds on to the series leader's jersey going into the final race at Leeston on October 23rd.
 
Meanwhile in the women's race Sharlotte Lucas, Hokitika, covered the same 93 kilometre distance in 2 hours, 40 minutes and 49 seconds, sprinting home Grace Anderson, Auckland, while Karen Fulton, Nelson, led home a small chasing bunch.
