Leading tourism operator Dart River Jet is inviting Wakatipu locals to experience the wonders of the Dart River Valley and stunning Mt Aspiring National Park, as part of its annual Locals’ Weekend on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October 2016.

Local residents can take the Dart River Wilderness Jet deep into the spectacular Mt Aspiring National Park, or gently float downstream on Dart River Funyaks at significantly reduced prices – with all funds going to a deserving community project.

Locals’ Day specials are priced at $60 per adult and $25 per child on Wilderness Jet, while Funyak trips (which include an hour’s high-speed jetboating) are $120 for an adult or child.

Business manager Harald Ulriksen says the fundraising weekend enables Dart River Jet to “support the community that supports us”.

“Last year, thanks to our generous locals we raised $3,800 for the Glenorchy Heritage Museum Group.

“This year our team is delighted to support Glenorchy Primary’s makeover for its outdoors native classroom,” says Mr Ulriksen.

“The students have done a fantastic job revamping outside areas so far, with the ultimate aim of growing vegetables and native plants for the community while supporting local wildlife and showcasing students’ work.”

Dart River Jet is owned and operated by Ngāi Tahu Tourism. Its renowned experience takes visitors on an exhilarating and spectacular journey, with a unique combination of breathtaking scenery, wilderness jet boating, Māori heritage and inspiring adventure.

“We’re passionate about the area we live and work in, and want as many people as possible to experience what we see every day: pristine, untouched wilderness less than 40 minutes’ drive from Queenstown,” says Mr Ulriksen.

The Locals’ area incorporates Queenstown, Glenorchy, Kingston, Arrowtown and Gibbston, and residents will need to show photo identification and a utilities bill as proof of residence for six months or longer to qualify for the trips.
