The Spirit of Adventure, the sailing programme developing young New Zealanders, is now backed by Hyundai. And this weekend, Auckland Anniversary, Kiwis can share the spirit.

The rapidly growing and increasingly iconic car brand has announced an ongoing sponsorship with the Spirit of Adventure Trust, with a weekend-long celebration at Princes Wharf.

“A journey on The Spirit of New Zealand is one of the most incredible experiences any young person can have, and this is the opportunity for people to learn more about it.

“At Hyundai New Zealand, we love the spirit of adventure.”

The Spirit of Adventure is a unique sailing programme started in the 1960s which has now given more than 75,000 young New Zealanders fun access to a character development programme, giving them the opportunity to explore and grow.

They don’t simply get shown how to sail a ship, they learn to be self-reliant, to get on with complete strangers, to take responsibility and to communicate. And then they return to shore to surprise their family and friends. In those few days at sea they seem to have become taller, braver and more confident.

They’ve also built bonds that will last a lifetime. “It’s a perfect fit with Hyundai,” said Mr Ruddenklau.

“Just as ‘Spirit of Adventure’ takes on a meaning beyond a sailing programme, so Hyundai represents more than just vehicles.

“We become part of the lives of everyday New Zealanders, both through our highly advanced range of vehicles and through the Hyundai New Zealand network which is one hundred percent locally owned and operated at national and local dealership level.

“We share that wider Kiwi trait to live adventurous and meaningful lives as part of our community – to try new things, to look forward, with the right kind of energy.

“Hyundai is most excited to be part of this amazing, life-changing Spirit of Adventure Trust, which is building up the next generation, filling these young people with confidence, giving them experiences and friends which will last a lifetime,” Mr Ruddenklau said.
