High Protein Breakfast Company makes delicious substantial mueslis, but they are not just another cereal: the difference is protein.

Rich in amino acids, High Protein Breakfast Company’s muesli is made from natural ingredients that deliver a simple, richly textured, delicious breakfast experience, without puffs, refined sugar, rancid processed oils or cheap fillers. But the main difference is protein. Why? Because protein not only is essential for most bodily functions, it also promotes satiation for a longer time, and helps build up and maintain lean muscle.

Auckland-based start-up High Protein Breakfast Company was created by Liz O’Callaghan, a fitness, health and food enthusiast who decided to invest her money in something she believed in. A few years ago while trying to lose weight and get fitter, Liz came up with the idea of producing her own high protein cereal as she couldn’t find a muesli that was high in protein and did not contain the sugars or fillers that so many processed breakfast foods contain.

Her quest to find the ultimate breakfast led to the creation of the Start Me Up range. Available in three flavours – Feijoa, Peach + Nectarine, and Berry – it offers a unique combination of fats, carbohydrates and protein sources which make for a nutritious, delicious and convenient breakfast that gives a nice satisfied feeling and is great for a post-workout recovery. The protein used comes from nuts, chia seeds, LSA (linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds), and free range egg white powder. The recipe has been endorsed by several sportspeople and nutritionists.

All mueslis come in 400g bags ($22.95), and although they might seem more costly than some other premium options in the market, their high protein concentration and highly selected ingredients make the High Protein Breakfast Company muesli so filling that a package goes a long way – the ideal daily serving is 50g (1/3 of a cup), so each bag is good for up to 8 breakfasts. The mueslis are best enjoyed with natural yoghurt, hot water or coconut milk or cream, which enhance the nice textures and mix better with LSA, but are also great sprinkled over a fruit bowl or even blended into a smoothie.

The Start Me Up mueslis can only be purchased online at www.highproteinbreakfast.co.nz and delivered nationwide. There is also a subscription option (weekly, fortnightly or monthly) with free delivery. High Protein Breakfast Company will be launching its 8-Week Empower Program soon, which will include an 8-week muesli supply, exclusive fitness habit coaching through an online accountability platform, group nutrition coaching, and online support for a healthier life and a leaner body.
