In another record-breaking year, 286 entries have been reviewed for the 2017 Dulux Colour Awards, narrowing the field down to 88 finalists across Australia and New Zealand.

Now in its 31st year, the iconic program is set to once again recognise Australian and New Zealand’s diversely creative and outstanding use of colour across commercial and residential spaces.
Recognising inventive colour application in built environments, the 88 finalists were selected across nine categories:

Commercial Interior – Workplace & Retail (15 finalists)
Commercial Interior – Public Spaces & Hospitality (16 finalists)
Commercial Exterior (17 finalists)
Single Residential Interior (14 finalists)
Single Residential Exterior (5 finalists)
Multi Residential Interior (5 finalists)
Multi Residential Exterior (5 finalists)
International (7 finalists)
Student (4 finalists)

Dulux Colour Planning and Communication Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr, said the 2017 submissions were exciting, inventive and unexpected, in line with this year’s theme of ‘Bold, Forward, Tilted’.
“This year, we witnessed a trend of darker tones in commercial spaces – with blacks, charcoals and purples prominent throughout exteriors and interiors. Cooler combinations of blues and greens were also popular, while architects and designers are continuing to explore geometric shapes and industrial aesthetics.

“Similarly, residential entries embraced moodier palettes and deeper colour tones, which were cleverly off-set with elegant light greys, whites and soft pinks. There was a strong modernist influence evident, and minimal colour schemes with metallic shades applied in subtle ways.

“We were also greatly impressed with the calibre of this year’s student entries, with imaginative concepts and clever colour combinations displayed,” Andrea said.

The 2017 Dulux Colour Awards finalists will now be judged by a panel of design leaders, including; Ryan Russell – Director at Russell & George; Maurice Terzini – Restaurateur and Fashion Designer; Fiona Lynch – Director at Fiona Lynch Interior Design; Timothy Hill - Director at Partner’s Hill; and Shelley Ferguson – Editor in Chief of Your Home and Garden (NZ).

The judging panel will select winners across the nine categories, with the best of the category winners awarded the Grand Prix prize. Winners of the 2017 Dulux Colour Awards will be announced at a gala event in Melbourne on Wednesday 10 May, 2017.
