With paramount success of 2017 Laguna Phuket Marathon (LPM) which took place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June 2017, the 2018 edition of this internationally-recognised and Southeast Asia’s leading destination marathon race has been officially announced to once again take place atAsia’s premier destination resortLaguna Phuket. The 2-day “Sunset to Sunrise” Marathonwill be heldon Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June 2018.Comprising race distances for everyone in the family, the Marathon includes 2Km Kids Run, 5Km Community Run, 10.5Km Mini-marathon, 21Km Half-marathon and 42Km Marathon.

2017 LPMCOMPLETED ON A HIGH NOTE WITH HONEYMOONERS-CUM-CHAMPIONS WOWING THE CROWD

On Sunday, 4 June, the 12thLaguna Phuket Marathonconcludedat the integrated resort’s outdoor event venue “Laguna Grove” located in the heart of Laguna Phuket. Thousands of runners and spectators were in awe to learn aboutthe sporty yet romantic story of the male champion, Nakajima Hiroki, and female champion, Inoue Tomomi, who are not only representing their country (Japan) but also on their honeymoon as a newly-wedded couple.

Other social activities such as Pasta Party and Farewell BBQ Buffet took place at Laguna Phuket’s 1,000-square-metres Latitude Marquee and XANA Beach Club over the weekend. Both venues areknown for their versatility as large-scale MICE venues.

With the inaugural eventorganised in 2006 to offer “Run Paradise” experience and enhance the economy in Phuketduring the green season, LPMhas gained great success. This year, LPM celebrates a 6th consecutive participant record when close to 7,000 runners from 51 countries took the race course through scenic tropical parkland, beaches and hills of Phuket Province, a beautiful destination island in Southern Thailand.

HIGH-PROFILE AND CELEBRITY RUNNERS CELEBRATED LAGUNA PHUKET’s 30th ANNIVERSARY
This year’s runners lined with high-profile celebrities and spectatorsmarked Laguna Phuket’s 30th anniversary with photo-taking at its grandanniversarybackdrop near the event’s start line upon their arrival at the event.

The 2017 Laguna Phuket Marathon was honoured by star-studded celebrity runners including Eitan Hermon, Paralympic marathon champion and world-record holder from Israel; Hong Kong’s Mike Cartwright who has run more than 150 marathons; LPM Ambassador in Japan Mika Imai; Thai Celebrity and TV personality Patcharasri “Kalamare” Benjamas who ran her first 10.5Km at 2017LPM and Thailand’s number 1 rock star Athiwara “Toon” Kongmalai who broke his own LPM record from last year, to name a few.

RACE’S SUSTAINABILITY AND POSITIVE IMPACT ON LOCAL COMMUNITY

Besides the revenue generated for Phuket’s tourism segment and local community during the Marathon weekends that welcomed close to 7,000 runners with followers from around the world, the event also featured“Baan Kanan” village booth to showcase Phuket’s local food and signature produce.
Laguna Phuket also leverages on this mega event as a meaningful platform for runnersto raise fundsthrough donations and sponsorships for the Resort’s long-established Laguna Phuket Foundation,to operate its various charitable programmes.

Runners made donations via online event registration and at the event donation booth. Over 20-plus years, millions of baht was raised at Laguna Phuket Triathlon (LPT) and Laguna Phuket Marathon (LPM), and used in the operations of Laguna Phuket Foundation’s many educational empowerment programmes such as Mobile Learning Centre, Community Learning Centre, Laguna Phuket Kindergarten and Seedlings Phuket Internship Programme.

This year, to commemorate Laguna Phuket’s 30th anniversary, Laguna Phuket has set up “Children First Fund” (CFF) to support more than 400 orphans in 7 Phuket orphanages. As with previous years, runners and spectators at the Marathon were encouraged to visit Laguna Phuket’s CSR booth, make contribution and leave positive impact on Phuket.
