PORT STEPHENS – In2Adventure have announced the launch of what is described as a trail run festival that is set to delight, challenge and inspire Australia’s trail running fraternity hosted in what is arguably one of Australia’s most iconic and picturesque destinations.

The Tomaree Trail Run Festival, named after the national park in which the event is based, will be hosted in conjunction with TreX, Australia’s national cross triathlon series which includes seven events across the nation this season.

Based on the NSW Mid north coast and just 2.5hrs drive from Sydney, Port Stephens offers a winning combination of beaches, national parklands and rugged coastlines. The location offers the perfect backdrop for the action packed Tomaree Trail Run Festival and TreX Series which takes the traditional form of triathlon and then heads ‘Off Road’ with a thrilling mix of swimming, mountain biking and trail running.

The event is hosted by In2Adventure, the team who brought the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships to Australia in 2016 and have been hosting specialist off road and adventure events throughout Australia for over ten years. Race Director Simon Lazenby sees the launch of this new trail run festival in Port Stephens as “a significant and exciting addition to an action-packed calendar of off road trail events in 2017/18.”

Proudly supported by the Port Stephens Council, the Tomaree Trail Run Festival will take place on Sunday 17th September following the TreX Cross Triathon Festival on Saturday 16th. It offers a selection of courses including half marathon, 11.5k and 6k distances along with a free Kids Mud Rats run.

The course will also hold some special experiences for athletes as Event Director Robyn Lazenby told us,
“Port Stephens is one of Australia’s natural hidden treasures with its spectacular coastline, beaches, and the beauty of Tomaree National Park. The location represents the perfect setting for a trail running festival as it will challenge participants with a course that includes some of the most diverse and eclectic mix of trails and terrain found anywhere in Australia.”

When asked more about what the course will offer to Australia’s trail running enthusiasts Robyn added,
“The courses start at Race HQ based in beautiful Fingal Bay and will challenge runners with a diverse array of terrain and scenery, from the beauty of Tomaree National Park, to the expansive coastal views from the Tomaree coastal trail, to the challenge of the Samurai Dunes plus a rocky coastal section and then a short run along the awe inspiring white sandy beaches of Fingal Bay.

You might even see one of the many migrating Humpback or Southern Right Whales, or a friendly school of dolphins along the way, like we did earlier this year.”

The course has been designed for runners to experience an eclectic mix of diverse terrain, and physical challenge while having the opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful scenery in Australia in the one spectacular and iconic location. We can’t wait to welcome athletes from across Australia to share this with us.”

The weekend schedule offers a wide range of events for all ages and abilities including the trail run half marathon, 11.5k, 6k and Kids Mud Rats along with the Standard, Sprint, Junior, Teaser and Dirt Kids triathlon events plus a duathlon and aquabike.
