Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon

The moment I heard about the Christchurch earthquake was best described as horrific and surreal.

I was in Ireland having my morning bowl of cereal as I flicked online to scan the news back home as I do on a regular basis.

The images I saw of Christchurch looked like they were from a horror film.

The lovely city, 40 km from my North Canterbury home, where I was educated, worked and socialised, would clearly never be the same again.

Touching base with family and friends was nerve wracking, not knowing immediately if everyone and everything was still intact.

I am blessed that I lost nothing immediately close to me.

But that doesn't take away the fact that I still desperately want to do my bit to help those back home who did lose loved ones and possessions.

So on March 20 I am running the Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon, raising money for the New Zealand Red Cross, all proceeds going to the Christchurch Earthquake Fund.
