Get your UGGS out – it’s going to be a long cold winter! Here, top tips on how to keep the chill off this season.

Get social…

Like our furry friends, we also like to hibernate in winter, declining invitations to go out with friends in favour of cosy nights in watching DVDs. Get social and invite a few couples around for dinner – winter meals can be quick and easy – pop your ingredients in a slow cooker (we love lamb shanks!) before work and by the time you’re home, dinner’s ready! Set the table, light some candles and you’ve got a slap up dinner party that will warm up even the coldest guests! Or cuddle up in front of the television with a group of mates, mugs of hot chocolate and bowls of popcorn – the perfect night in, we reckon.

Get active...
It’s cold and miserable, you’ve done nothing but sit in the office all day and now its home time. Instead of driving home and heading straight for the fridge, hit up some friends to start an Indoor Netball team, or try walking home from work instead of driving. You’ll feel so much better sitting down to those hearty meatballs and spaghetti and glass of red wine knowing you’ve burnt off some calories earlier! Your body – and mind – will love you for it.

Get cooking…
Get your apron on and get into the kitchen – winter cooking is easy, delicious and a great way to ward off nasties like cold and flu. Garlic is essential to maintaining good health during winter, so add it to all your soups, quiches, casseroles and pastas. Try making your own hummus and pita breads with lashings of garlic – the perfect pre-dinner treat that’s also healthy – yum! Green, leafy veges such as broccoli, silverbeet, celery and leeks all contain excellent antioxidants and make perfect companions to red meat or chicken dishes.

Get cosy…
A fire is one of the things we love best about winter – warm, cosy, intimate – it ticks all the boxes! Transform your living room from blah to beautiful with an indoor fireplace that not warms your home, but is also super-stylish. The Rinnai Neo is on our wish list this winter!

Get outdoors…
Yep – don your beanie and your UGGs and hit the backyard to rake leaves, pick up branches or weed the garden – whatever needs doing, do it! Getting out in the fresh air will give your lungs a wake up call and help you to breathe easy later that evening, with an injection of crisp, cold air to revive your spirit and help you sleep better. Plus, odd jobs like this burn calories too – bonus!
