Run, walk or bike to show your support for stroke survivors worldwide on Saturday 29 October.

Calling all runners, walkers and cyclists around New Zealand and the world… Dust off your sports shoes and hit the streets of your neighbourhood this October 29th to show your support for World Stroke Day.

Runners from all over the world have registered their interest in participating in this international awareness exercise, to acknowledge those who have been affected by stroke.

The World Stroke Day Run is the brainchild of Jup Brown who is currently running the length of New Zealand raising awareness and donations for the Stroke Foundation of New Zealand.

The concept of a run for awareness works in well with the Stroke Foundation’s message to reduce the risk of stroke by enjoying a healthy, active lifestyle.

The idea sprung from conversations with fellow runners when Jup was running a marathon at Mt Everest Basecamp earlier this year, as part of his training for his New Zealand run. When told of his plan to run New Zealand, many of the international runners wanted to get involved and volunteered to run in support on October 29 in their respective countries.

From Germany to the USA, Australia to Austria, Jup has had emails from people keen to join in that day and Stroke Foundations around the world are also getting involved.

Participants are encouraged to submit photos of their individual and group efforts with details of their run and location so Jup can upload them on his blog, to show stroke survivors they have support in all corners of the world. So please head out for a 1km walk, 100km run or anything in between to show your support!

Jup will be running from Cape Reinga to Te Kao on the day – where will you be?

Today, Jup is now on Day 56 of his run of the length of New Zealand for the Stroke Foundation, having run a massive 2,400kms.

Jup has just 500km to go before he finishes his run on 6 November at Auckland’s Viaduct. There he will be joined by supporters and his inspirational friend, stroke survivor Nick Chisholm, who will ride the last kilometres of this great journey with him on recumbent bike.
