The Subway Guy Returning to New Zealand

Jared Fogle, aka The SUBWAY® Guy, is returning to New Zealand three years after his last visit.

Jared’s three day visit in November will take him to Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. His itinerary will include a school visit in Auckland, an event with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, a five kilometre fun run in Wellington and SUBWAY® store visits in each of these centres. He will also be conducting media interviews across the country to share his amazing story.

Jared gained celebrity status after losing 107kg from a diet consisting only of SUBWAY® Subs and has been the global face of the SUBWAY® Brand since 1998.  He lost one third of his overall body weight with a regime he created from eating low fat sandwiches on the SUBWAY® menu and exercising.

Fogle, America’s ‘weight loss icon’, is a global ambassador for the SUBWAY® Brand, recently named the largest Quick Service Restaurant Franchise in the world. He appears in many global advertising campaigns and travels the world talking about the importance of leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

“I have fond memories from my last visit to New Zealand,” says Fogle. “The people I met and the Kiwi response to my story really blew me away.  I’m really looking forward to returning in three weeks time.”

Jared will be recounting details of his incredible weight loss and discuss the challenge of keeping the weight off once you’ve lost it.  He will also share recent milestones including completing the 2010 New York City Marathon, his journey through Kuwait, Germany and Italy visiting US troops and the arrival of his son, Brandy Mac in September.

“Jared is a real inspiration worldwide and having him back in New Zealand is a reminder to Kiwis that keeping weight off once you’ve lost it is achievable,” says David Herrick, Head of Marketing for SUBWAY® restaurants New Zealand.

Jared will also be bringing his infamous pair of 60-inch ‘fat pants’ - a reminder of the days when he was at his heaviest.

“I’m bringing the pants with me,” adds Fogle.  “I tried to retire them but they’re making the trip back to New Zealand by popular demand.”

Today Jared juggles a career of motivational talks to school children, media commitments as well as fronting The Jared Foundation, a charity he founded to fight childhood obesity by educating children and parents about the importance of healthy nutrition and exercise. The Jared Foundation has recently partnered with CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) an organisation in over 8000 schools in the US and Canada, considered the leading programme in the fight against childhood obesity.  With 20 years experience, CATCH programmes focus on physical education, in classrooms education alongside after school and family modules.  Donations to the Jared Foundation will be used to implement CATCH in as many primary and intermediate schools as possible.
