With just over six weeks to go, there is still plenty of time for family members to train for one of the three Lake Taupo Across the Lake Swim events.

The iconic open water swimming event, which is in its 49th year, is being held on Saturday 25 February.  This year there are three distances to choose from, catering for a range of swimming abilities – a 1km beginner loop, a 2km intermediate loop (both starting and finishing at Three Mile Bay) and the traditional 4.2km option (starting at Acacia Bay and finishing at Three Mile Bay).
Organisers are hoping families will challenge each other to participate and improve their swimming skills.

Local Taupo family – the Jennings – are leading by example with 13 year old Daughter Rose taking up the 2km challenge after completing the 1km last year and 10 year old Daughter Lily swimming the 1km for the first time with Mum Cecilia.

Online entries for the Lake Taupo Across the Lake Swim are available at www.acrossthelakeswim.co.nz  - registrations start from $15. Food and drinks will be available after the event and a prize giving will be held with a great range of spot prizes up for grabs.

The Lake Taupo Across the Lake Swim started back in 1963 and is Taupo’s longest running event, with thousands of swimmers taking part over the years.  This iconic Taupo Event is organised by the Taupo Moana Rotary Club and AC Baths and any proceeds from the day will go towards promoting water safety in the region.

The event is held late February providing those competing in the Ironman the opportunity to have a training run.  The swim makes up part of the Erin Baker, Cameron Brown and TriTaupo 4 awards.
